THE DANCE STUDY | FLOFOTO THIS . WAS . THE CONCEP THE DANCE STUDY | FLOFOTO THIS . WAS . THE CONCEPT …OF FUN! Chasing movement, catching a perfectly executed technique, & then, in the very same breath, trying to create an honest biographical portrait of a human being. Every dancer brought their own distinct character into this space, & it was such a joy to photograph every single one of them. Of course, there were some absolutely beautiful, technically sound moments throughout this shoot. But some of my favourite frames ended up happening between the moves. The moments when the dancing stopped, but the feeling didn’t. The quiet seconds spent sitting with a thought. The expressions that surfaced while they considered what they’d just felt in their bodies. The occasional laughter, the focus, the genuine dedication, & all those little glimpses of personality that made each dancer so entirely their own. Because as much as I love the shape, the lines, the movement, & the artistry of dance, it was the humanity behind it that really stole the show for me. A big thank you to Dance Evolution @danceevolutionsudbury for being game for this arty little experiment. We always love the space, the collaboration, & the opportunity to explore what happens when we let the art lead the way. ❤️❤️❤️ JOY over perfection. These two knew how to laugh, but they weren’t af These two knew how to laugh, but they weren’t afraid to lean into the arty, slightly ironic side of things either. Naturally, we were here for all of it. The chemistry was undeniable, the laughter came easily, and there was never any shortage of personality to work with. One minute, they had us leaning into the beautifully unconventional; the next, they were bringing us right back to the heart of it all, with vows that had both of them crying. Fall is falling & it did not disappoint. A private Fall is falling & it did not disappoint. A private property in Fairbanks, a landscape showing off every shade of autumn, deep blues & reds, and colourful bouquets to absolutely die for. The bridesmaids in deep blue velvet? A dream. A backyard full of good people, & a wedding party A backyard full of good people, & a wedding party that you could personify as the concept of Red Bull. This was one of those intimate weddings where everyone seemed to feel right at home. The energy was warm, the jokes were flowing, & the crew was more than happy to bring just the right amount of unhinged energy for our lenses. Between the lawn games, the ridiculous moments, the happy tears & the general refusal to take everything too seriously, there was so much genuine life happening in front of us. No fuss, no forced moments.
